What is PicoWay Tattoo Removal?

PicoWay is the world’s first and only dual laser device with proprietary PicoWay technology, which shatters tattoo ink, but leaves the outer layer of the skin intact. It also enables removal of multi-colored tattoos and recalcitrant tattoos on any skin type. Over a series of brief treatments, PicoWay can eliminate most tattoos. That’s why PicoWay is the tattoo removal laser of choice by the nation’s leading tattoo removal provider network.

PicoWay uses a photoacoustic, rather than a photothermal effect, which means the skin doesn’t overheat and lead to long downtime. PicoWay users have low to no downtime after treatment.

Picosecond technology, has ultra-short pulse durations, 100 times shorter than other lasers, and in the trillionths of a second. These bursts of energy create a photoacoustic impact which breaks up the pigmentation into smaller, more easily absorbed particles. PicoWay’s unique, proprietary mode of action has the highest peak power and the shortest pulse duration of any picosecond device on the market for superior efficacy, safety and comfort.
PicoWay also offers 2 wavelengths to treat most pigment colors & types. The wavelength selected for the eradication of the tattoo should be highly absorbed by the tattoo pigment and only minimally absorbed by other chromophores in the skin. Treatment of tattoos can, therefore, be performed with minimal adverse effects on normal skin structures.
Every different tattoo or pigmented lesion presents different challenges for total clearance. The effectiveness of your treatment will depend on many factors including the age of the pigment, its location, its depth, its size, and its type. Typically, optimal results are achieved with more than one treatment.

What to expect?

On your first visit, we will carefully test and monitor your skin’s reaction to the laser to determine the most effective treatment plan. After your PicoWay treatment, cold compresses may be applied to soothe the treated area, and in some cases, a topical antibiotic ointment may be recommended.

The degree of discomfort associated with treatment varies with each client, depending on the nature and location of the tattoo or pigmented lesion on the body. For those undergoing tattoo removal, many clients have stated that the feeling closely compares to that of having the tattoo applied in the first place. PicoWay technology was developed and designed to reduce the amount of pain that is felt during a treatment, while also reducing the amount of swelling that is associated with traditional tattoo removal.

Over the first few days following your session, you will be asked to take care to avoid using any abrasive skin cleansers and to avoid directly scrubbing the treated area.

In the weeks that follow a PicoWay treatment, some clients may experience temporary discolouration or reddening of the skin on or around the treatment site. Some clients have reported a temporary lightening of the skin following treatment. In both of these cases, the skin will typically resolve to a normalized skin tone.
