What is Dysport?
Dysport is like BOTOX, they are both types of neurotoxins that block muscle contractions. While both injections are sometimes used to treat spasms from neurological disorders and other medical conditions, they’re more widely used as facial wrinkle treatments. They’re both derived from botulinum toxins, which are safe in small amounts.
Dysport is considered a nonsurgical form of wrinkle treatment that have quick recovery rates. It’s a non-invasive injection that relaxes the muscle underneath your wrinkles, which in turn, smoothes out the skin above. This treatment does not get rid of existing wrinkles for good, but the effects are meant to make wrinkles less noticeable.
Dysport reduces the appearance of lines that primarily affect the glabella, the area in between your eyebrows. These lines extend upward, or vertically, toward the forehead. They are especially noticeable when a person frowns.
While naturally occurring, with age glabella lines can become more prominent during times of relaxation too. This is because our skin loses collagen, the protein fibers responsible for elasticity.
Dysport is recommended for moderate to severe glabella lines and not for light cases.
What to expect?
Dysport injections take just a few minutes to complete. You should start seeing effects from the injections within a couple of days. Recommended dosage from the FDA for the treatment of glabellar lines is up to 50 units divided into five portions injected into the targeted area. The best results will be several weeks after the injection.
As with any injectable treatment, there is always a possibility of bruising around the treated area(s). There is no downtime to the Dysport procedure. Patients may also experience localized pain, tenderness, light swelling, light redness, and/or bleeding/bruising, depending on your body’s natural reactions to injection points. All of these will disappear within a couple of days.
Avoid rubbing or applying significant pressure to the treatment area for 24 hours. This will prevent moving the dosage into an unintended area.
Avoid strenuous excercise and activity for a couple of days. Light to medium excercise is okay.
After the first 24 hours, you may start to gently excercise the muslces in that area. Just do your natural facial expressions—smiling, frowning, grinning, laughing.
Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before and after the treatment.
