What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and other skin issues—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your provider will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles immediately. Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults. It is also known to be used for treating Hyperhidrosis, slim your jawline, and aid with softening other fine lines and wrinkles you may be experiencing with aging.
Treating Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Post treatment, you will notice a visible smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles immediately. As the Botox continues to take effect over the next 2 weeks, you will see more and more difference in your fine lines and wrinkles.
There is no downtime with a 30-year safety record. Results last from 3 to 6 months.
In the case of treating hyperhidrosis, Botox will block the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands. Normally, your nervous system activates your sweat glands when your body temperature rises. This is how your body automatically cools itself. In people with hyperhidrosis, however, the nerves that signal the sweat glands are overactive.
When you receive Botox injections directly into the area of your body that commonly sweats, your overactive nerves are essentially paralyzed. When your nerves can’t signal your sweat glands, you don’t sweat. However, Botox only prevents sweating in the specific area where it’s injected.
Botox is injected into the chewing muscle, causing it to weaken and shrink in size. This procedure can be beneficial to those who struggle with jaw/teeth grinding while they sleep as it often will also treat this issue.
What to expect?
For the frown lines area, our skin expert will administer 5 injections into the muscles in your forehead—1 in the procerus muscle and 4 in the corrugator muscles.
Injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.
BOTOX® is usually 85% effective at 4 days and fully effective at 2 weeks. We have seen it in one case take up to 2 weeks before any results were seen. The full effect then did occur at 2 weeks.
For all other procedures, such as treating hyperhidrosis and jaw-slimming injections, please call or email us to book a consultation! We will walk you through the entire proecedure and help you assess whether these procedures are right for you.
There is no downtime to the BOTOX® treatment. As there will be an injection, clients may experience localized pain, tenderness, light swelling, light redness, and/or bleeding/bruising, depending on your body’s natural reactions to injection points. All of these will disappear within a couple of days.
Avoid rubbing or applying significant pressure to the treatment area for 24 hours. This will prevent moving the dosage into an unintended area.
Avoid strenuous excercise and activity for a couple of days. Light to medium excercise is okay.
After the first 24 hours, you may start to gently excercise the muslces in that area. Just do your natural facial expressions—smiling, frowning, grinning, laughing.
